Swapping displays between series

Hey. So just to confirm. I can't buy a mid 2012 Macbook Pro 15inch, detach the screen and attach it to my mid 2014 macbook pro 15 inch? They simply won't speak together?

There are two versions of the 2012 MacBook Pro the older uni-body and the retina series. Sorry to say neither wil work as a replacement for your 2014 system.

Apple over the years has had to migrate to what the display makers where offering this is where the interface standards changes from the older LVDS to iDP and then to eDP. The uni systems from 2012 and back used LVDS. The 2012/13 retina’s used iDP and if you haven’t guessed yet your 2014 uses iDP! Be careful as many people intermixed the two DP standards term while they are very similar they are not pin compatible.
