stuck on apple logo then shuts down

I have an old iPhone 2g that I need to get the data off, but ever since last week it wont get past the apple logo. I'm using a new pc so I don't have any backups. all i need to do is transfer it to a new ipad.

turns out i have the phone backed up to a CD! so, i grabbed my old mac book (spent far to long looking for the HDD) and resorted it! it works fine now.

(the only reason i needed my mac book is theirs a glitch in windows so you cant restore an iPhone 2g, and in newer versions of mac OS they removed support for this old phone.)
