Can this part be replaced?

Hi my son say something heavy on top of my Frigidaire upright freezer. He forgot opened the door and it fell. Busted the inside trim. Now my vacuum seal is weak. Can this part be replaced? How? If not can I still use the freezer with a weak seal ? Thank you in advance.

Hi @mssharp,

What is the model number of the freezer?

That part is absolutely replaceable. Going to a parts website with your model number, I looked up the piece you need. Here's the parts diagram; it's shown as part #10.

So we're looking for Frigidaire part number 297403902; a google search turns up several sites selling it; here's one of the few ones with a picture.

As to how to actually replace that part; I have no clue. Hopefully some of our professionals here can help out with instructions.

P.S., As a stopgap measure, you can cover that crack with some heavy duty packing tape; that will smooth the surface sufficiently to allow for a good seal on the door.

I didn't have much luck locating any information about replacing the part you need, other than the fact that it's part of the "breaker strip", which is the plastic around the edge that the door seal comes in contact with. There was one generic page that wasn't completely useless, but I don't know if it'll help.

If it is a rubber seal it can be replaced by going on line checking for appliance parts using the name and model number. If it is the plastic that is broke you can repair it by using a sealer for plastic repair but it will need to be smoothed out so the lid will close evenly. I have been repairing appliances for more than 25 years and I had to do this with my own freezer.

Thank you. But it is not a lid. This is a upright freezer. It is the hard plastic on the cabinet that kinda frames it
