Replaced battery, everything worked, then keyboard stopped working

So I replaced my battery (first time I got a bad battery and there was no battery status meter in the upper right... and Coconut battery wouldn't even report it - said "not available" then Ifixit was good on sending another battery and so I did the repair again...getting good at it now...) and everything was looking good when I booted up. Keyboard functioned. Track pad functioned. Coconut battery read the battery. The battery status was reading out.

So then, I was doing the battery calibration... in the phase of using the device until it shuts down... and I had put it into sleep to transport it...

And then opened it again...

And in the login screen, the keyboard no longer functions. (except the power on/off button... which maybe operates on a different setting?)

I went in and reset the keyboard data cable... found in step 33 here (MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015 Logic Board Replacement)

It didn't improve anything...

Also when I press the power button to turn off the computer, it's a little glitchy... maybe due to the keyboard connection?? There is a strange flashing in and out of the screen for a second - and some garbled imagery for a very very brief flash... then it shuts off.

So what's the story here? What's going on with my poor macbook pro 15" mid 2015 retina? How can I get it running and happy soon?

Often times I’ve needed to replace the MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2015) Trackpad Cable as the battery swells it stresses the cable and or grit on the bottom cover is pressed into the cable.

Thanks for the reply, Dan. But why would the trackpad cable correspond with the keyboard not functioning?... the trackpad works like a charm...it's the keyboard that's wonky...

@rogeringraham - Both access the same USB controller so a noisy line will mess up both.
