Last night in the middle of a round of Overwatch 2, the ps5 randomly cut off. New outlet, new cable tried, totally unresponsive. No lights, no beeps as long as I hold it.

I pray this fixes it for everyone else too, nobody deserves to have something this inconvenient happen.
Mine just totally turned off while playing. No beep, no light, nothing worked. Tried letting it rest tried different cord, nothing worked. I banged on the sides and top and hit power button and it came back on. You are right this is not a drill. No idea what the problem but I hope this helps others. Mine is literally 3 months old.
Made an account just to reply to this, mine was doing the same thing, I got agitated and started smacking it, then I held the power button down while smacking it and it turned on
This &&^&^$^ worked!!! I swear on my mother, i though this answer was bullshit but then i said &&^& it lemme try, and it worked!! I unplugged it shook it like a maraka, pat pat on bottom and top and then I tried to turn it on and it did!! Smack that shitt

Probably not it, but first thing to try is to make sure the wall outlet is not tripped. Second that the power cord is plugged in and that its not broken. (Ideally by uusing another PS5 cord that works on another unit). If, not possible to test it with a multimeter. Is all good, move on to the unit, try turning on with the working/tested controller(in case the issue is with the power button on the unit.). If nothing, then its time to over the cover and review for possible damage/blown fuses etc, and start testing. Do not open unless you are planning to learn how to fix it and be safe doing it. good luck, hope its just unplugged- happens more often than one thinks…

Ive tried a different power cord and different wall outlet. Controller doesn't turn it on. Are there tutorials for diagnosing and fixing broken fuses? Or could it be the power supply?
I just fix by trial and error. You need to have a multimeter handy. then unplug the unit (obviously don't want to be electrocuted) and then open it up - it's broken anyways, heh not much to loose. And first inspect for any visible damage (dark spots on the board etc.) then I would try searching on youtube. Sometimes also don't worry that the video is not in English as a lot of Russians, Chinese and Indians do amazing repair videos. And just follow the steps and try figuring out that's not working. If it is not turning on, means power is not being supplied, follow the power lines on the circuit board. I have not personally repaired any PS5 yet. Working on the induction stove at the moment. Learning as I go. Fixed and learned a ton this way.
I’m having the same issue, i went to a buddy’s house and tried his cord that works on his ps5 and I moved it to 3 different spots in my house, no light no beep nothing it just died as I was playing fallout 76. I want to look into how to tear it apart since I have no warranty, please share how to.

This just happened to me. I have the warranty thankfully! But sending my PS5 in for repairs or replacement should not take place in less than one year. There was no warning no over heat nothing. In fact I still use my PS4 to watch movies and stuff as to not over use the 5. Was playing GTA online for PS5 bc it was $10. Never had an issue the system just shut off out of nowhere. Tried everything and it's a brick. This is ridiculous!

Mine too, my story is the same and it happened 3 times.
Last month my ps5 digital version won't turn on suddenly after couple of hours from playing.
Went to a repair store and they said the power supply is dead and we need to change it.
After repair and 40 days later again the same thing happened, but luckily the repair store admitted there was a mistake from their side and they attached every part very well this time and i paid nothing.
12 days later played ea fc and turned off and 2 hours later it won't turn on again.
I began to hate this ps5 I'm ps user since ps1 and this is the first time i got all these issues.

Unfortunately, this is a far too common issue with the PS5. If you have attempted all of the usual fixes (unplugging from wall socket, leaving for 10 mins, tried another wall socket) then I am afraid the problem is likely to be a faulty PSU or a blown capacitor on the motherboard - have a watch here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLrWrZV1...

Same thing happened to my ps5 last night halfway through the Diablo 4 drop 😭😭 no pre warning or anything just shut down and never turned back on. I don’t even have warranty so there goes that I guess. Makes me want to buy an Xbox lol. And in regards to the spider man edition comment- my ps5 is not a spider man edition and has just pooped itself.

This is not a lie. Mine is 3 months old and went completely dead last night and wouldn't turn on with anything I tried until I banged on the side and top and it's been working fine ever since. Hope this helps someone who thought their console was bricked like I thought mine was.

As a 12 year old girl who also likes overwatch I don't know much about tech but it's probably something to do with how you handle your PS5 like if you don't dust it off and clean the dust it can damage the PlayStation or if you power it off too frequently because that actually can drain the core battery of the PlayStation

Don't give up, mine has now done this twice where I had to take it apart and blow it out with my compressor. There are a couple of spots deep in the machine that if they get clogged with dust will prevent the machine from turning on as I believe it's telling it that it's too hit or something. This is a theory but both times I had to actively take it apart as blowing with just the panels off was not enough, however both times it did fix my machine. My best advice is to at least get the computer keyboard CO2 spray cans or whatever they are and keep up on blowing the machine out every month or two. Good luck to all.

you, uhh, probably shouldn't really smack it, since there are things inside the ps5 that could be seriously dislodged if you do. The reason smacking it sometimes brings it back to life is probably because there's a problem with the connection with the power supply and the motherboard. As you can see from this picture from the iFixit guide on replacing the power supply, it is connected to the motherboard with two contacts that sort of looks like a plug. If that contact is not connected to the power source for some reason(probably a misshaped casing),smacking the ps5 would force the contacts to connect to the power source and bring it back to life.
So, the problem might have been a poorly connected contact that caused the ps5 to fail to power on, as there's no power going to the motherboard. You might want to take it apart and check that particular area and see if the contacts can connect or not. If it doesn't then it's probably caused by a drop that misshaped the casing of the ps5, which created a gap between the power supply and the motherboard. And DON'T SMACK IT!!!

Yoooo, the EXACT same thing happened to me and haven't been able to figure it out. I was also playing Overwatch 2 and it blacked out. I got it to turn on a few times throughout the next few days but it eventually would black out again, now it is just a sack of potatoes.

@chasephillips at first I didn't find anything with anyone saying anything similar to what happened to me. Now I'm seeing it more and more. I guess I'm lucky I have the warranty. But I'm never buying a console from a place that doesn't offer in store protection plans again. If I got it at Best Buy instead of PC Richards I wouldn't be waiting for a box from Sony in the mail. Not really trusting sending something I paid $600 for with the receipt and just trusting they sending something back. 🤷

Just happened with my sons PS5. No issues with the unit bought 2 months ago for Christmas. Suddenly it died and now nothing. I tried all the basics such as unplugging, moving it to another tv, etc. Nothing.

SAME! Happened to me 2 weeks ago. Was playing on it the night before. Powered it fully down with no issues. Went to play it 2 days later (after being off!) and it wouldn't turn on at all. No beeps, lights, prompts, warnings. Nothing. Its brand new. Bought it 3 months ago. Luckily, still under warranty and I mailed it over to Sony once I got the box. Now im just waiting....
Some people are saying its an overheating issue which is totally not true. My console was VERY clean and on the top of my entertainment system, which is also regularly cleaned/dusted. VERY frustrated with this situation.
