The TI-84 Plus CE is a graphing calculator released in Spring 2015 by Texas Instruments. It includes a 2.8 inch color screen, USB port, apps, storage, and a 1200 mAh battery.

My calculator is not charging or turning on

Hi, I just got my calculator (TI-84 plus CE) in the mail and it wasn’t turning on so I plugged it in using the USB cable provided that says it’s for “data transfer and convenient charging”. I am worried because the screen is flashing with a message that says “calculator will restart when validation is complete” so it doesn’t seem to be charging. It’s still not turning on and I have no idea what to do, please help. (This calculator doesn’t have a light on the side so I am unable to see if it is charging or what the battery percentage looks like)

Leave it charging for a few hours. If it still boot loops then press and hold 2nd and del (they're the top full sized buttons on the keypad) then press the reset button on the back of the calculator with a pencil for at least two seconds. You should see a message that says "send OS now". Do not press clear.

Leave it charging on this screen for another few hours. Afterwards, press and hold the reset button on the back of the calculator for at least two seconds again (but don't hold 2nd and del this time). This might cause the calculator to boot normally.

If you get the same "send OS now" screen then press the clear button (rightmost column on the keypad) and proceed with an OS reinstall: TI-84 Plus CE Recovery Techniques.

If it still boot loops then you likely got a defective unit. I'd return it for a new one.

If returning isn't an option, you can try buying a new battery and replace it. Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus CE Battery Replacement

Same thing is happening to me with a brand new one I bought my son. 😩

so I am a math teacher and had a student come to me with the same issue.

I tried the charging stations in my classroom all day. Brought home last night and cord charged. tried the 2nd del buttin where I can see something happening, but the blinking does not allow for a steady hold including the reset on the back.

Finally based on the above suggestion with the battery it works.

I have my personal calculator that I tried it with an wah-la.

If it's new return it for a replacement. I bet if you call TI they will have you send it to them and they may do it for you.

Good luck.
