Hi @chrisgarci19245,

The most common cause of this problem is called 'Stick Drift'

There are many articles on the web that describe this problem and how to fix it.

I will summarise below:

  • First and foremost - Thoroughly clean the controller, paying specific attention to the lower parts of the analogue sticks.
    • Best to use isopropyl alcohol and compressed air.
  • Reset your controller (instructions below)
  • If it is out of Warranty and you feel comfortable, carefully open up the controller and clean the analogue sticks and surrounding circuitry with isopropyl alcohol.

To reset your controller:

  1. Turn off your PS4 console completely.
  2. Press and hold the small button on the back of your controller for 5 seconds using a pin or paper clip.
  3. Connect the controller to your PS4 using a USB cable (any USB cable will work).
  4. Turn on your PS4 and press the PS button on your controller.
  5. Wait for the light on the controller to turn on, indicating that it's connected.

If the stick drift issue persists, cleaning your PS4 controller should fix it.

Hi @hamptonituk,

I don't know why the iRobot spam filter didn't like your answer so I have reopened all of your deleted answers to this question and have deleted two of them as they were duplicates.

Doing this has restored all of your lost reputation points on ifixit i.e. -100 pts for each answer or comment deleted by the iRobot.

I will advise the ifixit admin about this, so that they can tweak the spam filter so hopefully this won't happen again.

Don't be put off by this and keep on helping others to fix their devices

Cheers

Moderator.
