I want to make sure that I need a new display assembly?

Hey guys,

Just double checking with you knowledge keepers that I need a new display assembly ? Or is it something else I could try before paying for the new screen? I'm a totally newb so please let me know all possibilities and options ? I already have a new MacBook so not in a huge rush but super excited to start taking this apart and learning about it, and hopefully fix it for myself. Please see photo attached. I thought maybe it was caused by people putting things on top of it at work? But who knows.

Yep! New display is needed.

You need a used display if you want to do it your self otherwise the TrueTone and your camera won’t work. Here’s the guide MacBook Pro 16" 2019 Screen Replacement

Hey! Thanks very much. Just for my own interest and knowledge can you explain why I need a second hand one for truetone / camera to work?

@tomeaton - Apple requires a virgin display be ‘Calibrated’ which really is programming the displays camera micro-controller. This requires access to the tool which Apple keeps behind a wall that only its service providers have access. With the newer M series Apple has the tool behind a paywall so only people who buy the parts directly from Apple have access and only the one time! AKA John Deere ultra control paranoia!

@danj Getting this used intact screen is a problem. Do you see a way I could perhaps turn my old Macbook into a desktop, and connect a new LCD display monitor?

The only trouble im having is trying to connect a hdmi dispaly to the laptop without any screen to control / type in passwords / allow a connection

@tomeaton - Using an external keyboard and mouse with the internal display down you can use the system in clamshell mode. Then using your external display.
