Hello, I have had this issue for quite a while and I just can't stand it.

My MacBook Pro 2017 13" Touchbar is having some problems.

It cuts off right above the 0 key on the keyboard, and I have tried every reset, every tutorial on YouTube and still haven't found the solution. I tried re-attaching the Touch Bar connector when I opened my MacBook up and nothing changed.

@fartmoney43 try and replace the Touch Bar assembly first. It's a lot cheaper and you might as well try and repair it with parts like this or Shopping If you mess it up, you can always replace the upper case. Plenty of youtube videos like this one out there to at least give it a try.

Should you encounter any issues after, either with the new touch bar assembly or a new top case. read through the accepted answer on here

@oldturkey03 - Replacing the TouchBar it’s self while possible is not easy. Often you do make some dig marks where you pry on the panel to get it unstuck. And you don’t want to distort the metal as that could just leave you back to a damaged panel. Which is why I just replace the uppercase.

Besides, the butterfly keys are often worn as well.

@danj I like to save my money since I never seem to have enough of that. I'll work careful and take my time to save USD$200 any day. Any repair is with its inherent risk, so work smart and work careful and it creates a whole lot less waste.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@oldturkey03 - Both of us have the deeper skills, so it’s not such a big deal. Sometimes you need to look through the lens of the someone who is not doing repairs for a living and may not have all of the needed tools.

In this case we also have a second issue the fragile 🦋 Butterfly keys!

So between the two it’s just easier to replace the upper case assembly transferring the logic bd, battery and the other parts over.

@danj not sure about you but my skills are just as average as the next person. I spend my money wisely and purchase the least number of parts. It may take me a little longer but If I can pay myself an extra $200 I don't mind. I do not see that there are issues on this specific case with the keys. It is totally up to the individual on how to proceed. Not my call, just providing different options.

Sadly, the TouchBar it’s self is damaged. Basically, the panels metal oxide traces have severed (micro fractures) sometimes you can get the ends to touch so you think you fixed it, but not.

You’ll need to replace the uppercase assembly MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Touch Bar, Late 2016-2017) Upper Case

Yes, but the touch still works fine, just the display is bugging

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@fartmoney43 - I fully understand it’s the display! The touch sensor part is above the display, it works as it’s on a different plane. Think how the older iPads had separate layers the touch panel then the display in different panel units. Here they are in one assembly.

How’s the keys? If they are starting to fail I would replace the full uppercase.

Well You can try the following

  1. Restart your MacBook.
  2. Reset the touch bar and control strip.
  3. Check your settings.
  4. Update macOS to the latest version.
  5. Reset your Mac's SMC and NVRAM/PRAM
