Best place to order cheap glass shelves?

I am in the process of trying to make my fridge a bit less chaotic, so I tried to add a piece of acrylic as a makeshift shelf, but it is flimsier than I am comfortable with. I have the dimensions of the shelf from custom ordering it so I know what I need but the issue is a lot of places that do custom glass charge a lot for it and Galanz does not publicly sell parts so I can't buy it from the manufacturer.

Are there any places that sell cheap tempered glass shelves I can custom order a shelf from at a reasonable price?

Just in case anyone else needs the size and doesn’t have the originals to measure. For acrylic, you may want to round it down a bit to 9x14 3/8 to accommodate any size issues by adding supports. This will not be needed for glass.

I did opt to decide to cut off a bit of the edges on both sides to give me some breathing room to add supports, but the post-order cutting work still needed was due to an oversight on the original order. I also botched it once before so I’m just going to cut those down as well while I’m working on it too to avoid wasting them since I can’t return them.

What's the make and model number of the refrigerator?

You may be able to find the part number for the shelves from the parts list for the model and pick up a cheap used one somewhere else by looking for the part number.

@jayeff GLR33MBKE23. Gah I wish they had a parts section on their site so I didn't need to look around like this. I'm just glad with RtR being a thing now these days may end soon. Doing it this way will still probably end up being a better option then the next level up worth considering (usually ~$160 off sale, I got this on sale for $128).

Hi Nick,

Keep in mind that for this application you will definitely want to use either annealed or tempered glass, but the catch is it can't be cut. Once it's tempered, any attempt to cut it with anything other than a carbon dioxide laser will result in a pile of glass shards, so unfortunately your idea for cutting it yourself is right out the window.

This is not a cheap solution by any means, but there's a place near where I live that makes custom tempered glass. You put in the dimensions you want and any edge finishes and/or color options you want, and they give you a price that includes shipping.

I don't know the specifics of the dimensions you need, but I just took a rough number and went through their ordering process for a sheet that's 3/8" thick by 32" wide and 16" deep. I specified one finished edge for the front, and plain clear glass, and the treatment was for annealed glass rather than tempered; the main difference I believe is that annealed glass will shatter into shards and large pieces like you expect glass to, while tempered glass breaks up into small pebbles. The cost with shipping came to about $100, although they do have an option for knocking $30 off the price if I picked it up myself; of course the chances that'll work for you are vanishingly small unless you live somewhere near Vancouver Washington.

I've used them in the past and their work is fast and excellent quality, but of course you'll have to decide for yourself if that shelf is worth $100 USD or not.

I took the dimensions and checked but I can't find any used -- completely nonstandard. I wish I got something like a Magic Chef which uses more standard sized glass in hindsight or a bigger one which may have not been as bad.

I need to custom order them or buy used ones and have a shop cut them down to size. If it wasn't a one off I'd probably try to figure out how to cut my own glass (like how I did the labels myself with a Silhouette Cameo) but the cutter can be used for a lot, a glass saw is not as flexible.

@nick use what you got "to add a piece of acrylic as a makeshift shelf, but it is flimsier" that is because there are no braces on it. Go to places like TSC or similar in your area and get yourself a few feet of aluminium angle iron. Cut those to length and attach them to the from and back of your acrylic. You'll be surprised how solid it will be. That way you safe what you already have and do not contribute to any more extra stuff. It will also be cheaper than any replacement shelf.

I just wish the shelves were a normal size, or at least one I can get easily as a used part. The main reason I'm concerned about how much flex there is is it's not close to margin of error, it is a full blown flex.

The reason I'm in this situation is the one I have was on sale for cheap and the one with 2 full shelves was like $160. This one was $126 on sale. I'm not even remotely worried about it looking good for what is essentially for snacks and film.
