That’s the common error for Canon waste ink issues, while others will actually tell you. The problem is unless you have an old old model which can use leaked Canon service tools which can run locally (the newer ones are cloud based or still need to be leaked and cracked) the printer is dead. The cost to do a repair through Canon is as much as a new printer.

Long story short, you will have to reset the waste ink counter.

Resetting the waste ink counter:

  1. Unplug all power and USB cables
  2. Open the cartridge door
  3. Hold the power button, and keep holding it while plugging the printer power cable back in
  4. Release the power button once all lights are on.
  5. When the green power light turns off, press the power button quickly two times
  6. The green light will start blinking. Wait for it to stabilize.
  7. Close the cartridge door and print a test document.

@jplap With tbe cartridge door open?

What do you call "cartridge door" ?.

In the TS6151 printer, the ink cartridges are accessible by lifting the upper part of the printer (glass for copying and scanning); that's what I opened.

As nothing works, the cartridges are stuck on the right side of the cart and it is impossible to remove them.

Details:

As far as I know, in the case of the 5B00 error of Canon printers, you have to reset the copy counter to 0 to restart the printer.

I carried out this "rescue" on a Canon MX340 printer, 3 or 4 years ago, using a "Service Tool V????" to reset to 0.

But the "Service Tool" (V3400, V1074, ...) found on the net do not work for the TS6151 printer. Need a newer version for this printer.

The ERROR 5B00 on a Canon PIXMA TS6151 indicates that the printer's waste ink absorber is full. This is a common issue with Canon printers and can typically be resolved by resetting the printer or cleaning the waste ink absorber. Here’s how you can try to fix it:

Method 1: Resetting the Printer

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Power off your printer.
  2. Hold the Stop Button: Press and hold the "Stop" button (the red triangle inside a circle).
  3. Power On the Printer: While holding the "Stop" button, turn the printer back on. Keep holding the button until the printer is fully powered up.
  4. Release the Stop Button: Once the printer is on, release the "Stop" button.
  5. Perform a Series of Button Presses:
    • Press the "Stop" button two times.
    • Press the "Power" button once.
  6. Check for Error: If the printer starts up without the error, you may be able to print again. If the error persists, you might need to perform a deeper reset.

Method 2: Service Mode Reset

If the error continues, you may need to enter service mode:

  1. Enter Service Mode:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Hold the "Stop" button and then turn on the printer while holding the button.
    • Once it’s on, press the "Stop" button two times, and then the "Power" button once.
  2. Reset the Waste Ink Counter: Look for an option to reset the waste ink counter in the service mode. This often requires specific software or a manual guide.

Method 3: Clean or Replace the Waste Ink Absorber

If resetting doesn’t work, consider the following:

  • Clean the Waste Ink Absorber: This involves opening the printer and cleaning the pads that absorb waste ink. This can be messy and may void your warranty, so proceed with caution.
  • Replace the Waste Ink Absorber: If cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue, you may need to replace the absorber pads. This usually requires disassembly of the printer and is best handled by a professional.
