The PlayStation 3 Slim is the second version of the PS3 video game console with the original model number CECH-2000. Produced by Sony Computer Entertainment it fixed many issues of the original (fat) Playstation 3. It was released on September 1, 2009.

Loud Fan then nothing.

My PS3 when I push the power button the console light turns green and nothing shows up on the screen then the fan revs up really loud for a few moments then the console makes a single click sound inside the console, and completely shuts off to nothing then the red light comes back on. It responds to nothing not even safe mode. I have not tried anything but safe mode because I've not seen this exact problem anywhere else online. I think it might be a fuse possibly? I've owned the console from new in 2010 till now. It's a slim 160gb model never been modded was cleaned in 2019 and the problem started on January 2022. Tried to be as detailed as I can with this. Thank you.

did you find the solution??

I would guess the solution was to trash it. Sounds like a bad CPU. It draws a lot of current and gets hot, then the fan maxes out in response to the high temp. Then the unit shuts down.

Have not found a solution but I have not trashed it, it's my childhood PS3 I'll get it fixed some how someday, I bought another PS3.

Hi Ryan!

It does sound like CPU/GPU issues here. You can try to reflow them and see how it goes!

Here is a guide regarding the reflow: Yellow Light of Death Repair (this is meant for the PS3 Phat, but just to give you an idea). Always make sure to use new thermalpaste afterwards!

A reflow is most of the time temporary, but then you can see if it was related to the CPU/GPU.

Please let us know how it goes!
