Released by Apple on January 16, 1986, the Macintosh Plus is an upgrade to the original Macintosh and the Macintosh 512K.

Dead Macintosh Classic M0420

I found in my cellar a Mac Classic M0420 (belonging to my dad).

I tried to restart it, but it won't give any sign of life.

I disassembled it, and the different boards do not show any signs of damage (no capacitors or battery leaking). It looks like something related to the power supply. Do you know how I could test the capacitors on the logic board without having to extract them?

Do you have an ESR meter?

Hi Andrew,

No I don't have (I have a multimeter), but getting one shouldn't be a problem.

An ESR meter should be in the toolkit of every electronic hobbyist.

Do you think that I should check all the electrolytic capacitors on the analog board?

Mostly Macintosh Plus don't boot because of cracked soldering point or bad RIFA security capacitors.
