Overheating and smoking after 3 minutes

Have serviced mixer but still not good. Its gets very hot after 3 minutes, can hardly touch motor casing( motor is out of the mixer)

So far I have:

Replaced capacitor

Oiled both bearing felts.

Note there is no choke coil across resistor. Can this cause issue???

Cleaned commutator in drill with 400grit silicon carbide.

Cleaned govener contacts

Used dremel to remove small amount of mica between commutator bars, they were slightly protruding.

New brushes

Checked commutator coil resistance

Screamed at the machine several times, still no improvement.

Any help on any point appreciated

Love this machine

Eric

I'm did not mark coil housing location when pulling apart. How can I before I have it in the correct alignment. I can see a punch mark is this meant to be used to align parts.

Hi @phantomwalker ,

Here’s the service manual for the mixer. On p.8 it describes the re-assembly of the motor.

Hopefully this is of some help.

Jayeff, thank you.

I read it but can't see how to ensure the parts(Field Assembly and Drive End Frame Assembly 168 & 169) are aligned correctly.

@phantomwalker

Bit confused as you highlighted part #176 commutator end frame but mention part #169 drive end frame.

Was there no scribe mark on the commutator end frame and the field assembly so that they can be lined up?

Jayeff,

Thank you.

Where do I find the scribe mark. What does it look like?

Eric

@phantomwalker

I don't know.

The manual only says to mark the end frames in relation to the "stack" (presumably the field assembly) before removing the motor.

The punch mark is there for some reason so it must be to line up with a mark on the end frame
