What is a safe adhesive glue for a key cap?

I was attempting to fix a keycap for a MacBook Pro 2019 because it basically fell off due to the plastic white-tan color outer part being broken.

However in result of trying to replace the key cap I pulled off the clear plastic part (which contains the dome switch) and noticed it had some kind of adhesive used to keep it attached to the keyboard. What would be a safe adhesive for this? I was looking at this but idk if it expands or would damage any of the other parts.

Liquid thin super glue - think something like the small bottles from China that are cheap, or even the large bottles as long as it's thin (most of it from China is). WARNING: Be prepared to replace the entire palmrest if you get it wrong! It will not be cheap!

I’ve super glued domes on older Dells before that have fallen off due to degraded adhesive, but these are based on old designs where it is modular and I can cheaply replace it with a used OEM or clone if you mess up so it's not a expensive mistake. While it tends to work in most situations, need to be precise and make sure to remove the scissor hinge so you can work without as much risk.

do you recommend any particular one? I thought some glues expanded which I don't want to happen.

@technoob231 Nothing specific, as long as you use a cyanoacrylate glue that doesn't expand. I used Boli which is Chinese.

So if you mess up, which you will! You'll need to pay for a new uppercase (aprox $1,000 USD) or what I would do is replace the broken parts which is a lot cheaper!

I have the keycap and it still works without the keycap but it was sorta falling off the clips which holds it together which is why I was taking it apart completely to replace it with a new one

@technoob231 - So the KeyCap its self won't stay clipped to the scissor mech. Then click on the KeyCap link I posted locate the needed KeyCap and just replace it. Thats what I would do.

Glueing won't work as the plastics involved here are polyester (cap) & nylon (scissor part)

@danj I bought a new keycap but the issue isn't that the Keycap wont stay to the scissor mech, the keycap won't stay to the keyboard where all the white stuff is around shown in the 1st pic. When I pulled it off, it seemed they used some adhesive to keep the scissor mech, keycap, and plastic part (that holds the dome) to the board.

The reason I pulled the plastic part off is because it looked like I couldn't put the scissor mech back on since the clips/hinges laid underneath the plastic part.

@danj I fixed a Inspiron 1300 that was shedding rubber domes due to time being a thing, but as I said that keyboard is low risk - approx $13-20 mistake vs. approx $1k.

Even the 1300 is not super cheap to replace the entire thing if I got it wrong, but $13-20 is much more agreeable then $1k! However that's due to the age of the laptop rather then the keyboard cost... Which is why I tried and had no reservations.

Can keyboard (Key Cap) from 2017 be used on 2018 (A1990) EMC 3215, 15" with touchbar.

And is it possible that after changing the keyboard and changing the battery (at Apple). The Batteries current dropped from 100% TO 87% after charge the Cycle count is now 114.

@jarleiceman4 - The battery cycles count is a worry! It shouldn’t be this high with a fresh battery. I would say it should be less that five when you got the system back but you could run it up if you push things and quite a few months out.

I would go back to the shop if this was just a few days.
