How can I get back to root# command line read-write

I can only log in to my computer in command S single user mode due to GPU problems. I believe recently my computer updated or reinstalled high sierra 10.13.6 and now when I started up single user mode I am gettin -sh-3.2# instead of the :/root # , how can i go back to root command line? Fsck comes back OK, anything I type @ the -sh-3.2# returns command not found or device read only. Any Thoughts?

Are you able to boot up in Target Disk Mode?

Restart your system and press the T key. You should see either a FireWire or Thunderbolt icon on your screen do you?

OK your GPU has failed, what you are seeing now is the Intel Iris graphics services within the CPU.

You need to alter your so it doesn’t try to use the D-GPU here’s more on it Macbook Pro 2011 GPU issue: SOLVED by dosdude1
