Hi,

The issue on your toaster can either be a broken heater element or an integrated circuit issue.

If you hold it down and the toaster heats up, it means that the problem is with your circuit or the actual electro-magnet, that should hold the lever down when it operates normally.

Unfortunately for both repairs you need to disassemble your toaster completely.
