MacBook freezes only on “restart”

Some time ago I installed a third party hard drive in my 2017 macbook pro. Everything works perfect except when I press restart. When I restart the mac shuts down, slightly brightens and then stays that way. However, if i press shut down and manually turn the mac back on there is no problem at all. What can I do to fix this? It is especially frustrating for updates when the mac does restart itself.

What happens when you put the original SSD back in?

Which carrier and M.2 SSD did you use? The SSD may not be compatible, I would talk with the adapter carrier company to see what they say.

Thank for your reply! I used a wd sn520 and an adapter from NFHK. You think it will most likely be the adapter and not the SSD right?

It could be either! Are you sure you got the correct SSD? Western Digital PC SN520 NVMe SSD
