@freddifrog this is most likely caused by a failed spark suppression capacitor for the governor. IF it fails your mixer will only work at full speed. Check for it under the cover on the bottom of the motor. You’d be looking for a small, round, aluminum can looking part. Post some images of what you find so we can assist you further with that.

there are two aluminum can looking parts but how do I know which one works and how can I replace it and where can I get the part?
There's sure to be a label on it. Post a photo here, we will help. Replace both, they're cheap. You can usually get them through an mail order company for electronics.
I had the problem on kcc9060. I changed the dial element (so the triac) and i solved the problem.
