iPhone xr no power after charging overnight

woke up with a dead phone. the phone was plugged in to the charger overnight and when i woke up all i had was a black screen. tried force restarting the phone. tried plugging the phone in to a computer. tried multiple known working chargers. due to the pandemic and my desperation i checked in to a local repair shop they opened the phone and unplugged the battery from the main board and checked diodes and said a bigger repair shop needs to take a look. they didnt have spare battery to check on my phone. if i bought a new battery what are the chances of seeing my phone back to life?

I would try a new battery first. It has to have a battery hooked up to turn on or have a power source hooked up to the battery connection. It will not turn on with the charging cord. It's a possibility that the battery shorted out. So buy a new battery from ifixit and try that.

What is the voltage on the battery?

If the battery has zero charge it could have a bad tristar ic which controls the charging and data transfer. It is usually caused by using a aftermarket charging cable that is not MFI certified which can cause voltage spikes and damage the tristar ic especially if used in a car to charge the phone. A repair shop can test the tristar and it only takes a minute and most shops won't charge for it
