Assuming you still have the hard drive use an adapter like the one linked to connect to another computer and transfer the files. After doing that if you have no further need of the drive do a secure erase so you can dispose of the drive.

+ You can also find USB 2 compliant adapters like this on eBay for $10 or less. They work for SATA or PATA (IDE) drives. 3.5" or 2.5" drives. I keep one of these in my service call brief case. They are a nice tool to have.
