Faulty key - nibble gone

Hey!

I bought a partially broken Macbook Pro Early ‘11 yesterday to repair. The only broken thing about it is this one key that the previous owner must have tried to fix, but failed. See pictures. When i touch the bottom of the key, nothing happens, should it work when pressing the finger, even without the nibble? If so, is a keyboard or upper case replacement the only way to get this fixed?
