Be very careful! I personally don’t recommend replacing the cord. The reason is not opening the brick, but the cord you are getting is likely not the correct one!

Apple was sneaky! The MagSafe connector head has some logic in it besides the bi-colored LED Teardown and exploration of Apple's Magsafe connector As all of the cords look exactly the same you just don’t know what you are getting!

The issue is the charger wattage ID. You want to make sure the ID is correct for your given charger so the battery is properly charged. Mis-ID’ing can either create an over charge risk or under charge which slows the charge of the battery.
