Diagnostic Error Codes PFM001 PPT001 NDC001

Unable to power up normally (battery level charge shows single blinking led and magsafe connector led not lite) when plugged in). Able to power up after 10 second power on button but fan on high speed, no battery indication, etc. Ran Mac diagnostics (“D” on a restart) and got these error codes above. Computer apps seem to run fine and (SSD) disk drive checks ran clean. Tried a SMC reset (w/ 3 keys and pwr button procedure) but did not seem to run (does not restart).

Here’s a breakdown on the codes:

  • PFM001 - There may be an issue with the System Management Controller (SMC)
  • PPT001 - The battery was not detected.
  • NDC001 - There may be an issue with the camera.

Your logic board needs some serious TLC! It depends on what happened to it. Did you have a liquid spill into the keyboard or trackpad at some point?

You’ll need to decide if you have the needed skills to diagnose and repair the logic board your self or does it make sense to bring your system to someone that has the skills, tools and access to the needed parts. To give you an idea on whats needed Battery not showing up on A1278 Unibody Macbook Pro: how to troubleshoot & repair Louis also goes over one simple fix at the beginning.

If you just don’t have anyone local you can bring your system to or it looks like there is too much damage to the logic board then the other direction is to just replace the logic board MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Logic Board Replacement. There is also a bit of a bright side here as if you have the low end model its a chance to get a better CPU!

Good suggestions...I tried Luis' easy fix idea w/o success and don't have the tools to complete the logic board component debug/replacement. So I am looking at a new logic board that I will need to think about if it is worth the $.

(I am still in denial that the logic board failed as the computer is not used often and treated carefully.)

I replaced the battery some months ago and it was working fine...but is there any chance a sudden battery failure could generate all these error codes?

Who's battery did you install? I personally haven seen issues like this caused by a battery, I have seen the SMC issue caused by a fake MagSafe charger though.

Did you ever get your battery issue resolved? I recently purchased a new battery, not Apple, it charges fine but after about two weeks I have limited keyboard and no trackpad func, when I did all the options available to try to solve this problem, a message came up relating to the battery. Kind of odd that major issues developed after installation
