The March 2015 update of Apple's 13" MacBook Pro Retina Display, model A1502, features fifth-generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors and introduces the Force Touch trackpad.

My keyboard is suddenly unresponsive!

Hey Guys

I have MBP and the keyboard is dying sometimes. I thought maybe the keyboard cable is the problem, maybe it’s not touching the port fully or one of the pins is dirty or something but then I thought that the keyboard wouldn’t work at all if it was the situation ( if I'm wrong to correct me please these are all theories before I open the computer and start exploring what the problem internally).

I did try to reset the SMC and PRAM, both didn't fix it (the problem is sometimes going away just by closing and open the lid and sometimes I'm restarting the computer and sometimes I just wait for it to go away so by didn't fix it I mean it didn't make it go away, in fact, I'm writing this in the MBP) already ordered new flex cable for the trackpad also the trackpad works perfectly all the time even when the keyboard is dead. if you guys any other idea it’ll help me a lot

Edit:

Thanks, guys :)

Omer

This series uses independent cables between the keyboard and the trackpad. Replacing the trackpad cable won’t fix your problem!

More likely the battery has blistered so the pressure is pressing on the keyboard and its cable.

Let’s do this is your system is still working enough, download this gem of an app CoconutBattery and post a snapshot of the main window so we can see how things look Adding images to an existing question

If your keyboard is not responsive you should be able to use a USB or Bluetooth keyboard.

Well the battery is about half way in its lifespan so clearly its still has some life left. At this point you’ll need inspect the battery if has become swollen. Compare yours to the images here: MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015 Battery Replacement. If the cells look OK it sounds like your system has a liquid spill at some point and the keyboard has become damaged. Replacing the keyboard is possible but its a bit of work. I would recommend finding someone who has done it before to help you.

First question: do I need to look at both of the sides of the battery ( meaning to get it out and inspect it) and second , I think I can handle it myself I love to fix things like this (well we're all here cuz we love it)

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@vulse - No you only need to look at the exposed side after taking the bottom cover off. You might note the battery is not sitting flat down at the sides.

@danj Hey umm weird thing , I put the MBP on my belly and when I'm taking breath and my belly is lifting up the key board is not working and when I'm breathing out belly is kinda flat keyboard is working again , sending a video now and something I think I forgot to mention and it's pretty big , the power button works even when the keyboard is not working FYI the keyboard is not working now and it's very long for some reason

Thats starting to sound like a bad connection. Did you lift the keyboard latch or is it missing? Review this guide MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015 Logic Board Replacement jump down to Steps 27 & 28
