Unexpected Shut Down after RAM Upgrade

After purchasing 16GB (4x4GB PC3-10600 SODIMM) of RAM from OWC and installing, the computer seemed to be operating fine. The first unexpected shut down occurred about an hour after the install and has kept happening intermittently since then.

I’ve used disk utility to confirm the drive is in good working order and installed all possible operating system updates. Any suggestions??

Take the SO-DIMMS out and carefully wipe the contacts with a new pink pencil eraser (not dried out) go with the grain of the pins one stroke per pin to make sure there is not oxide build up, then use a cotton swab with reagent grade 85% isopropyl alcohol.

Try only installing two SO-DIMM and then try the other two.

Otherwise you’ll need to return the RAM to get another set.

@princeunicorn - Did cleaning them help?

It did indeed! I ended up using an eraser first, followed by the rubbing alcohol. The computer seems to be running perfectly.
