Keep getting a starting system disabled on 2006 Lacross

I keep getting a starting disabled message while driving my 2006 Buick Lacross. And it shuts off. Disabling everything while I'm driving… power steering and engine. I let it sit for a couple of minutes after I manage to pull over and then it starts up again. I also get a couple of other messages like service IBS system soon and service traction system also when this happens. Any clues?

I had the same problem but it didn't shoot out a code.Dealership had it for a whole day before it ran a code.Turned out it was the PCM.

My wife's 2005 CX Lacrosse 3.8L had this exact same problem. The cause was a 7 year old battery and corrosion buildup around the positive terminal.

After replacing the battery and cleaning the connections I tried several component changes based on CEL codes with no success. I just finished spending about 1.5 hrs. doing an ignition key relearn procedure, it takes persistence, after purchasing and installing a refurbished and reprogramed ECM from Flashmaster's ECM in Cincinnati.

Car is back to normal, runs like new again.

The problem, "starting disabled, and reduced engine power" are gone as are the CEL codes P0601, P0606 and U0107.

Donna brown you got a whole lot going on here. I would suggest that you take it and have the OBD scanned. Generally it is the theft deterrent system that generates the message. Sometimes after the battery has been changed or the battery has been jumped a relearn procedure needs to be performed. It is also possible that this is a failing crank sensor. You should be able to find the cause or issue by scanning the control module for the history codes.

Security Relearn

With a master PASS-Key III key, turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Observe the STARTING DISABLED DUE TO THEFT message on the driver information center (DIC), after approximately 10 minutes the STARTING DISABLED DUE TO THEFT message on the DIC will turn off.
Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds .
Repeat steps 1-3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles or 30 minutes .
With a master PASS-Key III key, start the vehicle. The vehicle has now learned the key transponder information and the PCM has now learned the fuel continue password. IMPORTANT: The vehicle learns the key transponder information and/or passwords on the ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. from here

Donna Brown, did you make a new key or lost the original key and made a new copy. The message you have normally indicate you are using a new key and it needs to learn the new key transponder. the steps provided by oldturkey03 are the proper steps to introduce the new key to the car.
