I have i5 iMac Retina 5K Late 2014, I want to upgrade the CPU, but what is possible i7 CPU ?

We can see the 4.0 GHz Core i7 (I7-4790K) is the best CPU Apple offered.

you can't use firmware to further upgrade to newer CPUs? Assuming you do not exceed power limitations?

@Nik ath - Apple's firmware is not directly accessible (closed), as such you can't modify it like other PC's which have a BIOS user interface of some sort. Apple has made a large effort to protect the firmware from being altered or copied.

Thats indépendant of what the rest of the systems hardware is able to support which is also a large factor.
