Kenwood VR-507 Receiver Starts Clicking at Random and Audio Cuts Off
Ive had this receiver for like forever. Recently, it started doing this clicking thing. It clearly sounds like some kind of relay and seems to happen at random. Some times it goes for 4 - 5 hours (after turning it on) w/o happening and other times its after only 10 minutes.
Some times it click 6 - 8 times a second for a couple seconds and other times its maybe once a second for 5 mins. The audio cuts out while this is happening.
I first thought it might be a heat issue, so I blew the thing out and stuck a fan blowing on it. This changed nothing.
Interestingly enough though, I realized its the SPDIF In audio that cuts out. When using the analog input on the front, the audio doesnt drop. But the clicking is quite loud anyway.
Anyone have any diagnostic/repair suggestions?
Thanks!

@ahhk could just be a shadow situation but check the components between the two ribbon cables in picture number 5. Looks like some discoloration going on there.

Yeah, I saw that as well. But like the two patches near the center of photo #2, I think it is just some odd discoloration as none of the local components show any visual signs of heat damage and the solder points all look solid. I havent removed any of them to test, though.
Is it possible that this could just be a faulty relay - instead of bad cap or whatever is triggering the relay?
I havent been able to pinpoint which relay it is yet since its now being a PITA and only doing its thing when I'm out of the room. But, Im pretty sure its either K1 or K2 (photo #2). I was going to try to clean it up, but they dont seem to have a removable cover like many do (unless the latches are on the bottom?)
And since K1 seems to control the primary speakers, is it possible that this could be caused by a (speaker) load issue? Guess I'll verify each line is 8 ohm.
Im far from being an expert so Im just guessing here :0
I'll add a closeup of the relays.

I have a Kenwood vr305. it dose not have all those ribbon cables, no damage. I put new heat sink grease on all the components my audio dose not cut out. just every once in a while the relays click for about 10 seconds. I turn it up loud maybe 3 to 4 times a year on 2 speakers only.

Did you ever figure out the issue? I have a VR-509 that’s doing the same thing.

@brian
No, I never did. Replaced a few suspicious components, reset the solder joints on a few things, etc. Then I saw a 2 year old 7.2 Onkyo for $100 on craigslist and never went back to it.
