Potentially ominous problem discovered under hood of Inspiron 7570

I just removed the casing for a first time battery change after 18 months since I bought this device, and discovered that the foil on the hard drive is split, with a connector peeking out. In all other images/videos for this model, the foil is intact and no connector is visible. Can anyone explain what might have happened here? Thanks

You bought a machine that just came with an SSD and Dell included the cable and drive caddy so one can be added later. You didn’t get screws, but 2.5” drive screws aren’t hard to get.

Think of it like this: Your machine didn’t come with a drive, but it was provisioned so you can add one.
