White Screen of Death on Startup

I’m trying to boot my Macbook Pro but running into white screen of death after a few seconds - with a characteristic crumbled line across the screen. See image. What could the issue be?

Unfortunately a recurring and pretty common issue on that MBP series. Have a look at this question posted just a couple of days ago, same issue and solutions: White screen / Logic board damage

Thank you very much!

I have now managed to boot the Macbook. To do this I first booted it in single user mode (cmd+s) and typed:

nvram fa4ce28d-b62f-4c99-9cc3-6815686e30f9:gpu-power-prefs=%01%00%00%00

[ENTER]

nvram boot-args="-v"

[ENTER]

reboot

[ENTER]

Computer now boots fine with integrated GPU but will switch to DGPU whenever I start graphics intensive software. Will removing the Radeon kexts solve this?

Thank you, this solved my white screen problem as well. I have found I have to start in single user mode and enter the command every time I start the computer after shutdown. Do you know if there is a way to enter the command as a launchd to avoid this? Thanks again!

I've been using this workaround for about 6 months now, a bit of a pain, but such a relief to get my computer back.

Just yesterday, I found that starting with cmd/S and power button was no longer getting me into the single user mode, with the white text on black screen.

Instead, it was just the same as pressing the power button. White screen of death after the chime. Anyone run into this before?
