2013 MacBook Pro 15" Retina powers on with cable, but not batter alone

Hi guys,

I recently dropped my 15” Early 2013 Macbook Pro Retina and it landed on the right corner. Now, it won’t turn on, unless it’s plugged in to a power source.

I recently went in and disconnected all the wires and reconnected them, still same problem.

Here’s my system report - Charge Information:

  •   Charge Remaining (mAh): 7783
  •   Fully Charged: Yes
  •   Charging: No
  •   Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 7981
  •   Health Information:
  •   Cycle Count: 53
  •   Condition: Replace Now
  •   Battery Installed: Yes
  •   Amperage (mA): 0
  •   Voltage (mV): 12415

Does anybody have a solution to this?

Do I just need a new battery, or is there an easier solution to this problem?

Note: The low cycle count is because I replaced the battery just 6 months ago.

Condition: Replace Now - Is a good clue this battery has issues. As you just replaced it I would contact the person who sold you the battery for an exchange as its likely defective.

That might be either a problem with the charger, or a problem with one of the connections from the charger to the battery.

Battery shows 100% charged when I’m powered on (which can only happen when plugged in.

@drochwalik Then it means that the battery isn't retaining any charge, which means that the battery needs to be replaced. However, don't take it to apple, they will probably overcharge for it. If you want to fix it yourself, try looking at a teardown.
