Can you upgrade logic board to 2017 spec?

I have an A1466 Macbook Air mid-2012 spec with a battery for servicing. I already have a hand on a new one, but saw that you can actually buy a new logic board that’s i5 and 8gb from 2017, which is a great upgrade. It looks like the body and everything is still the same but can you actually do this?

It’d be worth a try. If it doesn’t work or whatever, than you could just sell the mobo, or butcher it in.

Good luck!

Yes, its technically possible! Just consider the costs Vs getting a new system if yours is in rough shape.
