New build. Getting "reboot and select proper boot device" prompt.

Hi there,

Recently finished putting together a new PC build. Here are some specifics.

  • Eclipse p400 case
  • MSI Z390-A pro motherboard
  • Geforce 1060 6GB card
  • DDR4 2x8 GB ram
  • Seagate Barracuda 2TB HD
  • WDS250G2X0C 250GB

I am getting issues with the “Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device prompt. I have tried changing boot options to each of the HDs, as they both come up as options. Doesnt help. Tried removing the little motherboard battery for 5 mins and sticking back. Nothing.

Thoughts?

How did you bring up boot menu from the error screen

This is absolutely normal, neither of those devices are bootable. Assuming you’re installing Windows, you’ll need to put the Media Creation Tool on another PC so you can create a bootable USB, which you can, in turn, boot to and install an OS on your SSD. I have the same problem expect I cant enter bios when memory is connected to my pc even a flash drive.

What is the make and model number of the computer or the motherboard if self built?

By memory do you mean a storage device (HDD, SSD) or do you mean RAM?

To enter BIOS on most PCs press either F2 or Del when the logo screen displays on startup.

Nevermind I was able to fix the the problem (and felt like an idiot) and I can acess to bios now but I have a new problem. I cant install Windows 10 in my new build ,I tried setting my flash drive with Windows to boot option 1 and resetting it but it just showed me the erro message. Any clue?

hi yeah I bought my SDD today it's small with supposedly 1tb, i installed via SATA Cable, when I started the computer, nothing happened, all it booted was a Black Screen with error saying "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device" worst part I can't open my bio i tried every key there is and my built set pc that my brother bought is called American Megatrends the last time i loaded it up with HDD drive before i stupidly broke it.

Did you make the SSD "bootable" or clone it from the existing HDD in the PC beforehand?
