And another question about old problem

From last question, I've reset everything, formatted hard drive, erased etc.

Dan suggested I get a new hdd (ssd) which I did. I also checked to make sure it was compatible with my 2006 2.16 Ghz macbook A1181.

After installation, pretty much as before when I changed hard drive and cable. My bootable usb now shows up, but no hard drive in startup pane. When I hold option on boot and it does decide to go, the hard drive shows up in disk utility but not in startup panel.

It shows up installed and in usb dock but not on boot and not in startup pane.

To get it to boot at all, I have to put in an update disk and hold option. It takes forever to get to the “apple” screen. When it boots to update DVD, no drives show until I go into disk utility. Of course there is no drive so it can't load anyways.

I'm guessing there is probably something on logic board gone but in some ways that doesn't make sense. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? I've pretty much spent as much or maybe more than I could sell it for working.

What is the drive you got in the system now?

What is the OS-X you are trying to install. I think you’re almost there! Did you run the OS installer so the new drive has the OS installed?

I have a 2006, original gen macbook. I’ve had similar issues to you.

These machines don’t boot from USB’s in my experience. Burn it to a DVD, you’re issue will probably be resolved. It worked for me. Also, I think your system has a 32 bit UEFI but has a 64 bit processor. This can cause many issues. Personally, I got linux on my machine so I had to use a modded 64 bit linux distro that would work on a 32 bit UEFI. If you want a link to that, I can share it as it would most definetly work on a DVD.

However, Mac OSX is a different story. You have to make sure you’re using a 32 bit distro, aka, the right OSX version. And on a DVD of course, since no boot from USB on that system.

Thanks for your input, however the issue isn't being able to install it, the issue is nothing showing on bootup to install it to.

The hard drive(s) only show in disk utility, not on startup or startup drive pane.

Thanks again, I really don't feel any closer lol. The best install DVD I have may have crapped out. It stopped the install about half way through and the message makes it look like the DVD is no good. I bought a cheap SSD from Amazon that is sold and warranteed locally here in Ohio. I did check to make sure it was backward compatable though. I believe it is inland professional, which has mixed reviews but believe it or not someone had installed it in a 2006 MacBook.

I have a lubuntu Linux distro on DVD which I had installed before the original HDD went bed. I can boot it and use it from the DVD, but can not put it on any drive internally or external. This is one reason I think the logic board may not be the culprit, I just can't think of another reason.
