Trying to assess extent of screen repair/replacement

Screen does not respond to any buttons, reset attempts or otherwise - it is permanently black. The LCD light works fine so you can see that it's charging, when it's full, etc.

This behavior has coincided with me waking up one night to find I'd fallen asleep on it. So…. what might we be looking at here? Any and all help is appreciated.
