Why is the fan so loud

the fan on my laptop is working overtime, is there a fix for this. its very loud and slightly off putting

This most likely caused by your fan running at high RPMs. Take a look at step #3 of this guide at the crimped ends of the heat sink tubes. You are looking for evidence of leakage. This may be an oily looking stain residue from possible leakage. It probably wouldn’t hurt to also replace the thermal paste
