PS4 Eject Button not connecting - Need Help

I’ve recently taken apart aPS4 to complete some cleaning and the replacement of thermal paste and the addition of a new Blu-Ray ribbon cable.


The machine boots up and works fine except the touch sensitive eject button does not function.


I can eject via the PS4 interface and I can also eject via touching the small copper plate when the cover is off, so I am 100% sure this is an issue with the button itself.


On closer inspection it looks to have been bent back a little and whilst I have tried to bend it back I fear it’s not touching the copper plate.


However I am confused how this works - should this silver prong be touching the copper plate at all times?

If so is it worth adding some solder or tin foil for a possible way to guarantee contact?

Chalk that up to one of Sony's worst engineering choices. Somewhat amusingly, most people have the OPPOSITE problem as what you're having; their drive ejects the disc all the time rather than not at all.

The way it's SUPPOSED to work is, the metal tab on the left side is supposed to make contact with that copper plate when you press the button. That completes the circuit and ejects the disc. So, yes, that silver prong should be touching the copper plate but NOT at all times. Only when the disc is supposed to be ejected. Typically what happens is that metal bit deforms over time and makes constant contact, causing the disc to always eject. The commonly accepted fix for that is to put a bit of electrical tape over that copper plate and simply use the software eject function, but that doesn't help you. In your case you're probably right; you probably bent it a little bit. You can try bending it back but your tolerances are very small; too much and it will constantly eject.

Thanks Steve - yeah does seem like a crazy design. What I don't understand though is how the button makes the prong move down to make contact, even in a working unit.

I've bent it back and stuck it down with blutack which has fixed it, but I don't see it move when I press the button.

I wondered if it was some kind of touch sensitive mechanism.

Yeah, I just ran into the same problem on my original PS4. The design on my unit looks the same as this and is a capacitive touch switch and not mechanical.

With this design you simply need to make sure that metal plate is making good contact with the front switch and that the arm will make contact with the copper plate on the drive when the cover is attached.

Hi, i know this is a very late response. But it may still be of help to someone. I faced the exact issue and it took quite a while for me to figure out its mechanism. First off the ps4 eject button is not a touch button. It is a physical button that makes a movement of the metal spring inside move by a fraction if millimeter. Probably by one tenth of a millimeter. This is what makes the eject button feel like its a touch button. I was surprised and amazed by the crappy design. So basically the metal piece inside does not always touch the copper contact on the pcb board. But when you touch the eject button, the springy metal then touches rhe copper contact on the pcb. So to fix that issue i had to bend the springy metal inside the casing in very minor variations until i get it just right for it to make contact when the eject buttton is touched ( or pressed).
