Update (09/06/2018)

I have a bad feeling I might have damaged the motherboard. I think the phone was still on when I tried to change the home button. I'm very new at this! So with that information do you think it's the motherboard possibly?

What happened to the phone in the days leading up to this; was it dropped, repaired or came into contact with water?

Always start with a replacement screen to troubleshoot this kind of problem.

Most likely you need a new screen. If you drop your phone a lot it might be the logic board, but I doubt it.

Before you replace anything, disconnect the flex cable from the screen to the logic board and reconnect them. I have had this happen to me after replacing different parts and just need to be reconnected. You may also try to clean the connectors also.
