iPhone stuck in recovery mode, can’t restore/reset it.

I recently got my phone screen fixed. I turned it on and it was stuck in recovery mode with support.apple.com/iPhone/restore at the top of the iTunes logo. I tried restoring it with iTunes on my computer multiple times but it stops and error (9) pops up. Any suggestions on what to do?

I had the same problem tried everything then I started just messing around so I took off the screen and tried updating it and it updated but then wouldn’t restart I then connected just the lcd and digitizer connector and left other connector unplugged and it updated and booted and is working fine now 🤷‍♂️

I’ve run into this before — error 9 usually points to a hardware-related issue, especially with the connection between your phone and the computer. Since you just got the screen fixed, it’s possible something wasn’t reconnected properly inside (like the battery or Lightning port). But here are a few things you can try first:

1. Use a different cable and USB port – sometimes a faulty connection can trigger error 9.

2. Try a different computer – in case there’s a driver issue or something wrong on your current setup.

3. Use a third-party tool – I had success with Tenorshare ReiBoot. It can fix stuck-in-recovery issues and bypass certain errors without wiping your data. Definitely worth a try before going back to the repair shop.

4. If none of that helps, it might be a hardware issus. You should find Apple Support.

Hope you get it sorted soon!

Hello @abbylww0,

Error 9 is somewhat related to dropped connection.

There is more than one cause that can lead to this failure.

However, if the iPhone was charging normally before, does not have a charging port clogged with pocket lint, and was dropped (causing the screen to break) and bent (or possibly sat on), then you may very likely have a board level failure.

Technically, you may have a failed connection between a component known as the eeprom, and the CPU of the iPhone.

There are 3 popular ways to repair this: #1 reballing the CPU, very risky, very difficult and expensive; #2 drilling the CPU and placing "jumpers" to connect the CPU to the eeprom (risky, difficult, and expensive); #3 heating the CPU and applying pressure at the corner of the CPU where this failure occurs (very risky, could be only a temporary solution, can be cheaper).

Personally, my recommendation would be either to find someone who can offer you a no-fix-no-fee solution consisting of going over a few possible causes such as charging port, Tristar, NAND and NAND voltages, and finally option #2 = drilling the CPU (provided the cost is reasonable for both you and the technician performing the repair), OR discard it and buy a new (or used) phone. We've done option #2 before to retrieve data and were successful most of the times, and the most of those repairs lasted an acceptable amount of time afterwards.

Most of the time, you can restore your iPhone and get it back to normal from different iPhone errors, including iPhone stuck in boot loop issue. However, please be aware that putting iPhone into recovery mode to fix your iPhone will erase all data from your device. So it is recommended to backup all important files on your iOS device before the process.

Step 1. First of all, please don't connect your iPhone to the USB cord for now, but make the other side of USB connected to your computer.

Step 2. Run iTunes on your computer. And please be sure you have installed the latest iTunes on your computer. If not, go to Help > Check for Updates on iTunes to get a latest version of iTunes.

Step 3. Then turn off the iPhone by pressing and holding the Home and Power button on your iPhone.

Step 4. Next, please connect your iPhone to computer with the other side of USB cable after your iPhone has been turned off. Then continue to hold the Home button, and let go of it when a "Connect to iTunes" screen appears on your iPhone.

Step 5. Thus your iPhone has been in the recovery mode successfully. And you will receive a notification from iTunes, asking you to restore or update your iPhone. Just click Restore option to fix iPhone stuck in boot loop issue.
