The March 2015 update of Apple's 13" MacBook Air features fifth generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, resulting in slightly increased performance and battery life.

Hot chocolate spillage on keyboard

Hi! So last night, my girlfriend managed to spill about a splash of hot chocolate onto her MacBook Air. Specifically, it got spilled onto the keyboard area and a bit on the SDFCXZ keys. The laptop didn’t shut itself down when this happened but she shut it down about 3 to 5 minutes later. When the hot chocolate got spilled, she put her laptop in an upside down position (with the screen open) and left it in that position until we’ve had to turn it on for testing. We’ve turned her laptop on just to check if it’s still in an operational condition and it still works perfectly. We’re thinking of cleaning the laptop ourselves and the only typed of distilled water we have around is “Smart Water”. Would the added electrolytes from this water affect the laptop’s equipment negatively? Furthermore, we only have 70% propelyne alcohol currently at hand as well, is that good enough? Thank you for your time!

Once a keyboard has shorted out there is very little that can be done (as far as cleaning), to get it operational again. Your main concern is preventing damage to the logic board.

You are going to need to replace the keyboard. Test the machine out first with an external keyboard to see if the keys that don’t work now, will work on the external.

Replacing just the keyboard on this model is very labor intensive. Luckily the uppercase is not to high dollar:

The keyboard and everything else works perfectly fine, the laptop turns on and everything is working like nothing happened. But should we still be worried about it? Sorry if I was a bit unclear

Since it is still working, I would remove the upper case and wash it with distilled water and let it dry out with a fan on it for several days. Here's some info on the corrosive aspects of hot chocolate: http://www.circuitinsight.com/pdf/corros...
