Display starts out as Black then turns to white

Problem is this, When you press power, you hear the apple sound, all the while the screen is black, then shortly there after in the lower right hand corner of the screen, it starts turning to white and fades out the black till the whole screen turns white. It's like the screen is a piece of paper and its white then you light a fire to one corner and as the fire consumes the paper, it's turning it black. That is the effect. Now, when a external display is connected, everything on the external display is there, but nothing will show up on the laptop screen. Any solutions? Next question. Is the lcd screen itself still good? Could I possibly take out the lcd panel and put it in a G3 14.1/700/256/40/combo ibook (because this one has a cracked screen)? I would rather fix the 700 and leave the 600 for parts. The specs are: 600mhz 768mb 80Gb Combo Drive.

no problem, you can install the 600mhz LCD in the 700mhz ibook.

Thank you for answer, I found this out by looking at the connections and just plug-in-play (work) or otherwords, taking a chance. It also turns out that one screen was a Samsung and the other one was a Optoelectronics or something like that.

You can even install these G3 LCD panels in iBooks G4 (all models but the ibook G4 14" 1.42ghz, this one has a larger LVDS socket on the LCD panel).

Shine a flashlight at an angle on the screen and see if you can see the desktop. If you can your inverter or cable has died. To see if it may be the display data cable, move the screen up and down and see if there is any change. If you see no change then it's most likely the LCD.

Sometimes you get wrapped up in what your doing, I didn't think about these things, Here's an update. I ended up swapping screens, turns out it worked, no problem with lcd. I then put the broken lcd into the 600mhz ibook and there was no problem with the inverter. So I decided to swap back screens just for curiousity sakes, the screen came on no problems. I'm assuming that it was just a loose connection somewhere. Thank you for your help.
