Screen brightness resetting to full

I recently upgraded my 1.83 GHz iMac to Snow Leopard (10.6.7). Changed hard drive to WD Caviar Green 500GB SATA II drive. And max out RAM to 2Gb Kingston memory.

The problem is that every time I start the machine, the screen brightness resets to full. It used to be OK under Tiger (10.4.11).

I have tried this possible solutions I found over the internet:

  • Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
  • Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
  • Booting in safe mode

None of them worked. What else can I try?

PS. I have applied all available updates (e.g. EFI firmware 1.2, etc)

Is it only during boot, or does it happen still in the OS? i.e. does the brightness go back to your previous setting once you're in the OS? Also, have you noticed any issues with your clock being reset lately?

It happens still in the OS. It always starts up in full brightness.

The clock does not reset, its on the right time, even without a network connection.

I think Josh is right. Unplug the machine for an hour. Disconnect your internet connection. Restart the machine. Check the date and time and if wrong, change the PRAM battery.

I just changed the PRAM battery and the problem persists.
