Screen brightness resetting to full

crwdns2934249:0crwdne2934249:0:

I recently upgraded my 1.83 GHz iMac to Snow Leopard (10.6.7). Changed hard drive to WD Caviar Green 500GB SATA II drive. And max out RAM to 2Gb Kingston memory.
The problem is that every time I start the machine, the screen brightness resets to full. It used to be OK under Tiger (10.4.11).
I have tried this possible solutions I found over the internet:
* Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
* Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
* Booting in safe mode
None of them worked. What else can I try?
+
+PS. I have applied all available updates (e.g. EFI firmware 1.2, etc)
