Best possible CPU upgrade

Hi all,

I have the iMac Mid 2011 - i5 2.5Ghz

I am wondering what is the best possible CPU upgrade for this?

The best you can go up with is a 3.4 GHz Core i7 (I7-2600).

You may want to look at upping your RAM and jumping to a SSHD or better yet add in a second drive in this case a SSD. Remember your system has three SATA ports!.

You can see the only the mc Geekbench values are higher. Keep in mind only multi-threaded apps will take advantage of the extra threads. I think you are better off upgrading the RAM & Storage, and its less work and risk.

Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it.

Is there different variations of this CPU or am I safe to search for that and it is always the correct one?

The 3.4GHz version I believe was in the 27" iMac of the same year, is there going to be any issue putting it in the 21.5" (I read something about power is different between the models).

I have upgraded the RAM and installed the SSD already (great improvement), just want to do the CPU for an additional boost, and for fun!! :)

Here is the exact chip you need: i7-2600 Processor. Its been out of production for quite some time so finding one will be difficult.

This is the one I have https://ark.intel.com/products/52208/Int...

Can you see it is 65w, are you sure that one you have shown me will be ok, it says 95w

Your right! You need the S part Intel Core i7 2600S

Thanks,

That being the case, do you think there will be much improvement between the two?

Between:

i5 - 2400s

i7 - 2600s
