Hi there,

You may have some issues gaining access to the files if you have a Windows PC. Between the file systems being not compatible you may have files that are not openable in the Windows apps (some like MS Word & Excel will open).

Yep that’s right. It wont have access to all the files. I’ve tried it and it can’t find all my files.

If the hard drive isn’t damaged it should work fine. I have a MacBook Pro hard drive in an enclosure and I’m using it as a back up drive.

First Do you have a Mac Pro or a MacBook Pro?

It your drive is a 3.5" you will need and USB to SATA enclosure. If a 2.5" drive a simple USB to SATA adapter will suffice. Let me know what you have and I'll give you a link to what you need.

Next, please tell us why you think the Mac may be burnt, did it go through a fire?

UPDATE @danj

I had one come in this week, the 13" 2012. Two years ago I had replaced the hard drive withy a sshd and also with a 2012 cable. I determined that the cable ad failed again. Put a brand new one in and set everything up. It worked fine then I secured it in place with the hard drive bracket and tighten everything up. Go to boot for a final check and all I get is a folder with a question mark!Opened it back up removed the bar and spotted some white on it in the middle. Turned it over for a closer look and saw a white electrical burn. It was right where the bar goes over the cable. Felt it and it's very sharp corner. Replaced the cable, snipped the part of the bar that covers the cable off with dikes and it's running fine. I have no idea of how many of these it have replaced thinking the bottom was causing the damage as the cable climbed onto the optical drive.

Hi there,

It is MacBook Pro.

I changed the battery recently and the tech who fixed it didn't do a good job it seems. When i plugged in the chargers, it burnt something internally .
