Repair information and guides for the Apple iPhone 5s that was announced on September 10, 2013. Model: A1533, A1453, A1457, A1528, A1530, A1518

Why do I have no signal on my iPhone?

After replacing the lighting connector in my iPhone 5s successfully and finding that everything was working I discovered that I had no signal anywhere. After a few days I did get 1 bar and a 3G connection but nothing more than one bar very ocasionally ever since.

I did find one part whilst taking apart my iPhone that fell out and was a tiny shaped piece of metal. I beleve that this could be some sort of radio shield but I cannot find any reference to this part anywhere even after looking through the 5s teardown.

- I have checked all connections to the logic board and hard rebooting the phone both with and without the sim card in.

- I have checked the Time and Date are set correctly and that the sim works in another iPhone (4)

(Width of part ~ 3mm)

Any insight on the problem would be greatly appreciated.

The washer you found is likely placed behind one of the screws on the actual dock itself. I think... If you're not getting signal after doing this repair, I would look into the cable that connects the Lightning dock to the logic board. It's possible that even if the part is connected, it may not be doing its job

Beyond this, you could try toggling airplane mode off and on, or doing a force restart. Also I'm hoping you disconnected the battery, prior to doing the repair

I have tried force restarting the phone and toggling airplane mode but I will have a look at the cable the connects the dock and the logic board. Garrison Babbitt said that the washer goes between the logic-board and the housing which is an antenna. I will try both solutions. And yes I did disconnect the battery.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Correct. It goes between the actual dock, and the housing. There should be a few back there

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Is there any diagram or image that you can show me to see where the washer goes, I am having trouble finding the exact place myself.

I do most of this from my phone, don't think you can post pics, very well, from your phone. Under step 38 of the guide I posted, the four, three in that picture, the washers go under the lighting dock, the part you plug into. There are washers behind the dock. Honestly, I've left those out from time to time, and didn't notice a problem. I'm thinking it's the Lightning dock you bought, that isn't sending the signal

This piece goes undernieth the small black piece that goes between the board and the top of the housing. It establishes a connection between the board and the frame, which is itself and antenna.
