Firstly did you check to see if you turned your data on if you have then I would suggest contacting your carrier if they can't fix the problem they should replace your phone for free as long as you haven't taken it apart or done anything else that voids the warranty
If it can't read the disc it's probably something to do with the laser part that reads it, probably it has some dust or dirt on it and it just needs to be cleaned, I'd look up online how to properly clean it since you don't know how sensitive it is and you might break it if you even touch it (yes they can be that sensitive) try this site out http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/console/disc-drive-solution
Pull out the cable that connects the screen to the board then reconnect it I've had that problem happen on my friends iPad it would explain why it's able to connect to your PC but not actually showing up on the screen itself
