Released in North America in November 2006, the Wii was Nintendo's first home console to directly support Internet connectivity, supporting both online games and digital distribution of games and media applications through the Wii Shop Channel.

Wii Boots game, Then I get an error

A few days ago, I put Mario Party 8 in my wii and loaded it. It booted like normal, but there was no music. I pressed start, it checked the save data and not even a second after that it gave me the error, "Unable to read the game disc. Please turn off the Wii and eject the disc. Refer to the Wii Operations Manual for troubleshooting."

There is a minor scratch on the disc in about the area in the picture

EDIT: I just got the disc resurfaced and it will let me get to mode select if i'm lucky. they did a bad job though there were still scratches on the disc.

Try a different disc if you can. If that doesn't work, adjust the alignment of the motor. This is pretty difficult, but if you want to tackle it, Nintendo Wii DVD Drive Replacement But instead of replacing the drive, just find the screws that hold the motor, and adjust them until it works. If it never works, then you will probably have to replace the drive.

All of my games work except for this one. My wii did something weird where it did a reset but kept all of my miis and channels. That was around when I used it last. That was about 3 or 4 months ago.

If that is the only game that doesn't work then it is probably the disc. You can try having Family Video clean it with their machine.

Would a Gamestop have one of these machines?

I don't know. I haven't tried this, but you could also get a dvd scratch repair kit. It looks like it would be similar to the polishing compound used on cars.
