I am a beginner ... Suggestions?

Hello,

I am going to be starting to solder, and my goal is to become good at microsoldering on iphone, ipads, and other devices that require battery replacements, soldering pads, FCP connectors

What does everyone recommend for starting wise such as a microscope, hot station, soldering methods, etc?

I really am excited to get started ! Please help

Are you going to self teach or are you going to a technical school?

hey JimFixer,

Meant to ask you, would you happen to provide your number so i can contact you for a surface mount pad repair?

Daniel I do a lot of board work and pad repair is my least favored thing to do.for me if the solder pad is missing I'll make a few attempts but usually don't have much success. For your best info on this watch the videos by @jessabethany This is one person who has taken the self taught soldering game and made a business out of it she's probably the person you want to speak with most.

Daniel that is a great goal, but do not forget that you need to learn to walk before you learn to run. Start of by learning to solder through the hole components then move forward one step at a time. Get as many old circuit boards as you can scrounge. Get used to which flux to use and which solder works best for which job. As for tools, you need to be comfortable with them. It is not about what anybody else uses, its about what will work for you. I'd start by minimizing cost and use an average rework station. You'll be surprised what you learn by using mediocre equipment. Go with el cheapo equipment until you advanced your skills. You'll be surprised what you learn by using mediocre equipment. As your skills advance, advance your tools. I prefer Weller rework stations and a Amscope SE420. Again what works for me may not work for you. the single most important part is practise, practise, practise

Check Louis Rossmann's YouTube channel or the EEVblog channel, they made a few videos on lab equipment. Louis is a microsoldering specialist on Macbook logic boards, he has some good tips on good quality for small budgets.
